Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Hyeseong Kim has dazzled fans from the moment he was called up from the minors in May.

Kim is hitting .378 with two home runs, 12 runs batted in, and a .958 OPS across 79 plate appearances. The utility man has quickly become a fan favorite, and the numbers have spoken for themselves.

“I think that Hyeseong has earned opportunities, and I don’t want to get him to lose his mojo and sit for four or five, six days and expect good at-bats,” manager Dave Roberts said. “So I think that he’s earning the opportunity to get somewhat of a consistent look, and we’ll go from there.”

Dave Roberts says Hyeseong Kim is “earning the opportunity to get a consistent look.”

On Wednesday, Kim replaced Michael Conforto in the lineup. The Dodgers don’t usually sit Conforto unless the team is facing a left-handed pitcher, but Roberts opted to have Kim start at center field Wednesday against the San Diego Padres.

Kim went 1-for-2 with a double and strikeout. The Dodgers have been hesitant to place Kim in the lineup with a lefty on the mound, so that could be an indication as to whether the 26-year-old is getting a more consistent look as Roberts said.

The Dodgers planned on keeping Kim with the big league team as a temporary replacement for Tommy Edman, who was placed on the injured list with an ankle injury in May. However, Kim’s breakout performance gave the Dodgers no choice but to keep him on the Major League roster.

Since then, Kim has received sporadic playing time and many fans have taken to social media to express their desire for the former KBO infielder to be an everyday starter in the lineup.

Kim has started 22 games since his arrival to MLB, but based on Roberts’ remarks, it appears the utility man could receive more playing time as the season progresses.
