Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs fried the Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers), 12-0.
Michael Fulmer started this bullpen game and gave up just two hits over three innings. He struck out four and walked two.
Nate Pearson pitched the next two innings and was awarded the win. Pearson did not allow a hit, but he did walk two while striking out three.
Phil Bickford retired the side in order in the sixth. He struck out one.
Jack Neely and Ethan Roberts closed out the shutout. Neely pitched two innings and gave up two hits and issued two walks. He struck out two. Roberts allowed a two-out walk in the ninth, but nothing else. He struck out one.
Shortstop Ben Cowles was named Player of the Game after he was 2 for 5 with a double. Cowles scored twice and drove in two.
First baseman Jonathon Long went 2 for 5 with an RBI single and one run scored.
Center fielder Kevin Alcántara had a three-run double that capped off a seven-run fourth for Iowa. He also had an RBI groundout for four total RBI. Alcántara was 1 for 3 with two walks.
Every player in the starting lineup had at least one hit.

An RBI single for James Triantos, who was 1 for 5.
RBI double for Matt Shaw, who was 1 for 5 with a walk.
Alcántara’s three-run double came on a breaking pitch. OK, a hanging slider, but that still counts.
Knoxville Smokies
The Knoxville Smokies were spotted by the Chattanooga Lookouts (Reds), 7-4.
Starter Sam Armstrong took the loss after he was charged with four runs, three earned, on five hits over 3.1 innings. Armstrong had some control issues, as he walked four while striking out four.
Shortstop Jaylen Palmer hit his fifth home run of the year with the bases empty in the third. Palmer went 1 for 3 with a walk.
Left fielder Darius Hill was 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
Third baseman Pedro Ramirez was 2 for 4 and score once.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs melted down the Ft. Wayne TinCaps (Padres), 3-1.
It was one of the best starts of Jaxon Wiggins career, as he went a career-high seven innings and allowed just one run on three hits. Wiggins struck out seven and walked no one.
Noah Schultz pitched the final two innings to complete the shutout and earn the save. Schultz did make it interesting in the ninth when he surrendered two singles, but in the end it made no difference. Schultz struck out one and walked no one.
Left fielder Rafael Morel has been struggling badly this year, but maybe he’s coming out of it as he hit a solo home run in the seventh inning, his first of the year. Morel was 1 for 3 with a walk.
Center fielder Carter Trice tripled with the score tied in the sixth inning and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. He was 1 for 4.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were left ashore by the Delmarva Shorebirds (Orioles), 2-1 in 12 innings.
This game was scoreless after ten innings. Both teams scored in the eleventh, but the Pelicans failed to respond after the Shorebirds scored again in the top of the tenth.
Max Frisch got the game off right, going 5.1 innings and allowing three hits. He struck out eight and walked three.
Alfredo Romero kept the game scoreless for the next 2.2 innings and Dominic Hambley did the same for the next two.
Cole Reynolds pitched the top of the 12th and got the loss. He was charged with one unearned run on one hits. He struck out two and walked no one, although he did hit one batter.
First baseman Cameron Sisneros singled in the automatic runner in the 11th for the Birds only run of the game. He was 1 for 4 with a walk.
The Pelicans had six hits over 12 innings, all singles. Left fielder Jose Escobar was 2 for 6.
