Bobby Witt Jr. becomes first player in MLB history to reach this accomplishment

  • May 9, 2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Superstar Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. is no stranger to making history.

The 24-year-old has already signed the largest contract in franchise history, produced the first 30-30 season in Royals history and been the only shortstop in MLB history to post multiple 30-30 seasons.

On Thursday, Witt Jr. added to his greatness, albeit in a smaller sample size. According to OptaSTATS, Witt Jr. became the first player in MLB history to total 10 hits, 8 RBI, 6 extra-base hits, 4 stolen bases, 2 home runs and a walk-off in a five-game span.

That history dates back to 1920, when RBI became an official stat for MLB.

Witt Jr. made the history on a day in which he went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, steals and RBI, as the Royals completed a 4-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox in a 10-0 victory.

Wednesday night, Witt Jr. slugged a 2-run home run that provided Kansas City with it’s only runs of the night. Tuesday night, he delivered a walk-off single in a come-from-behind Royals win.

The five-game accomplishment has Witt Jr. started on a new hitting streak after snapping a career-best 22-game hit streak in Baltimore last Friday. Meanwhile, Witt Jr. and his Royals teammates have won six in a row and 15 of their last 17, sliding them up in the AL standings ahead of a 3-game series with the Boston Red Sox.

That series begins Friday night at 6:40 p.m. at Kauffman Stadium.
