Saturday’s win tied the two teams atop the NL East, setting up a Sunday night rubber match with the division lead on the line. Southpaw pitcher David Peterson (5-2, 2.60 ERA) will start for New York against Philadelphia southpaw Jesus Luzardo (6-3, 4.41 ERA) at Citizens Bank Park.
However, the Mets announced a surprise roster move before the contest, via their social media.

They optioned catcher Francisco Alvarez to Triple-A Syracuse and recalled fellow catcher Hayden Senger from Triple-A.
Alvarez is slashing .236/.319/.333 with three homers and 11 RBI over 35 games this season, while Senger is slashing .179/.207/.214 over 13 contests. Alvarez made his big-league debut in 2022, and Senger is a rookie.
New York fans are shocked on social media, considering that Alvarez homered on Saturday.

“Homers then gets optioned. Cruel world, man,” one person said.
“After he homered?” another one asked.
“He just needs bench time, not a trip back to Syracuse,” another one added. “I think Mendy and Stearns are just making [expletive] up as they go.”
“He hits and gets sent down. I’m baffled here,” another said. “Help me to understand, please. Listen, I’m a NY rangers fan. I understand bad coaching and player development. Give me a hint here.”
“This makes no sense right after he looks like he’s hitting the ball better,” another said.
