Gwinnett Stripers 5, Charlotte Knights 4 (Statcast Box)
The Knights (36-39) out-hit the Stripers (29-46) but the offense went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left six on base, and three of the four pitchers gave up at least one run as Charlotte fell short to split the series.
In yet another bullpen game, Yoendrys Gómez threw for 3 1⁄3 innings and gave up three runs on six hits while walking one and striking up three, ending up with the loss. He still had 14 swings-and-misses on his 70 pitches — the fifth-most in Triple-A on Sunday. Gómez gave up one in the top of the first and another two in the top of the second, and the Knights offense wasn’t able to make the comeback.
The bullpen gave up another two runs, one from Tyler Schweitzer (home run in the fifth), and Peyton Pallette allowed the fifth run from the Stripers in the top of the eighth.
Three of the 11 hits from the offense were homers: one from Brooks Baldwin, Tim Elko and Joshua Palacios. The Knights started to rally in the top of the eighth, and got within one run after the Palacios long ball, but Bryan Ramos grounded into a double play and Andre Lipcius grounded out to end any further scoring threat from Charlotte.

Columbus Clingstones 5, Birmingham Barons 1
The Barons (38-31) offense was only able to muster five hits against the Clingstones (26-40), and dropped the final game of the series to miss out on the sweep. Tommy Vail made his fifth start for the Barons and had one bad inning where he gave up a pair of two-run bombs that gave Columbus an early four-run lead.
Vail lasted for five innings and ended up with those four runs given up on four hits, along with a walk and two strikeouts. These were the most runs that Vail had given up in all of his games this year, but his ERA is still holding strong at 2.39.
The bullpen allowed four more hits and one run for the rest of the game, as Max Roberts gave up the fifth and final run in the seventh. Birmingham made a meager attempt at a comeback, but only scraped one run across the plate. Jacob Gonzalez doubled in the bottom of the seventh to get into scoring position, which allowed Caden Connor to drive him in on a base hit to left. This was one of the three opportunities the Barons had to drive in runs that were in scoring position, but there wasn’t enough offense to make it happen.

Winston-Salem Dash 2, Rome Emperors 1
The Dash (27-41) and Emperors (30-38) played a strange one on Sunday, as both had great days from their pitching staffs and the offense only came up with two hits apiece — but all three runs were scored either on a walk or a wild pitch.
Dylan Cumming made his third appearance and second start for the Dash since being signed on June 12 and threw two clean innings with two Ks to start the game. All of the pitchers were solid, however Connery Peters struggled the most with three of the five Winston-Salem walks, and got into bases-loaded jam in the fourth before giving up a run to tie the game at one on a wild pitch.
Offensively, the Dash went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and they also only were able to score two runs, mostly thanks to the Rome pitchers. Jeral Perez walked in the third with the bases loaded to score the first run of the game, and Samuel Zavala scored the go-ahead run in the seventh on a wild pitch. It was quite the thrilling game, but the Dash ended up winning the series, 3-2.

Charleston RiverDogs 6, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 5
There was plenty of offense with both teams putting up nine hits each, but the RiverDogs (38-31) were able to just outscore the Cannon Ballers (32-37) to serve them their 10th loss in a row. The Kannapolis pitching staff was very hit-or-miss, as they struck out 14 and walked five alongside those nine hits and six runs given up.
Kaleb Sophy made the start and lasted 2 1⁄3 innings and gave up four runs on three hits and two walk while also striking out four. Hale Sims and Kevin Davis took over for the next 3 2⁄3 innings and gave up another two runs on five hits, though Davis ended up being credited with the loss.
The offense was solid overall and went 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position, but wasn’t able to battle all the way back. Lyle Miller-Green (two) and Grant Magill (three) were the two Ballers batters with more than one hit, and each had also driven in a run. Miguel Santos and Javier Mogollón had the other two RBIs, but the team left seven other runners on base.
