SMETHPORT — The DuBois Senior League All-Star baseball team completed a sweep of the District 10 Championship Series with a lopsided 29-0, 3-inning victory against Bradford/Smethport/Mt. Jewett (BSMJ) Saturday afternoon in Smethport.

DuBois jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning before blowing the game wide open with 14 runs in the second and 12 more in the third. Things got so far out of hand that the game was called after three innings, not the necessary four via the 15-run rule at the Senior League level, at the request of BSMJ and was approved by District 10 officials.

Unlike in the first game when DuBois had just four hits in a 15-0 4-inning victory, DuBois churned out 23 hits on Saturday to capture its second lopsided win in a row against BSMJ.

Brody Knouse led that offensive attack, going 4-for-5 with a double, triple, three RBIs and three runs scored. Evan Burton and Wes Clyde each went 3-for-3, with Burton having a double, four RBIs and four runs and Clyde a double, triple, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Jack Statler joined the three-hit hit parade, finishing 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and four runs scored. Hunter Ho, Isaac Dennison and Nate Witherite each had two hits, with Witherite driving in three runs and Dennison two.

Knouse and Burton benefitted from all that offense, as they combined to throw DuBois’ second no-hitter in as many games in the series.

Knouse got the start and tossed two perfect innings to notch the win, striking out all six batters he faced. As for Burton, he struck out a pair in the bottom of the third, but DuBois saw its second straight perfect game bid broken up when Gideon Line reached on a two-out error.

DuBois pitchers struck out an incredible 19 of 21 batters in the two game series. Outside of the error in the third Saturday, the only other batter to put a ball in play for BSMJ in the two contests was Trent Tanner, who grounded out to lead off the third Saturday.

With the win, DuBois secured a trip to the Pennsylvania State Tournament, which will be played on its home turf at Stern Family Field on July 7-11.

DuBois wasted little time grabbing the lead Saturday, pushing three runs across the plate in the top of the first.

Clyde led off the game with a double and promptly scored on a Statler single to left. Statler quickly stole second and went to third when the throw went into center field before scoring on a Bryson Kail single to left.

Kail was then caught stealing second, but Burton singled to keep the inning going and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.

DuBois then put the game away with its huge 14-run top of the second, collecting nine hits in the inning while scoring 10 of those runs after two outs. A couple errors helped open the door for the big inning as well.

Clyde opene the scoring with a RBI single and later added a two-run triple in his second at-bat of the inning to make it 12-0 at that point.

In between those hits, Burton had a sac fly and Dennison a RBI single, while a couple other runs scored on passed balls.

Statler had a RBI single after Clyde’s two-run triple, while Burton and Knouse belted a RBI double and triple, respectively, back-to-back. Dennison capped the inning with his second run-scoring single of the frame to make it 17-0.

DuBois then finished off the dominant victory with 12 more runs in the top of the third, largely going base-to-base on hits. DuBois did more two-out damage in the inning, scoring 10 of those 12 runs with two away.

Witherite had three RBIs in the inning on a two-run single and bases-loaded walk, while Knouse had two RBI singles. Burton, Wilmoth, Ho and Easton Harris all added run-scoring singles in the frame, while Burton, Statler and Carter Genevro all forced in runs with bases-loaded walks.
