The Washington Nationals have the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. The Nationals will get first pick 2025 MLB Draft, which is set to take place on July 13 and July 14 in Atlanta, Georgia. Johnson, the national title-winning LSU Tigers baseball coach, knows who Mike Rizzo should take.

Johnson believes that his team’s ace, left-handed pitcher Kade Anderson, is deserving of the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming MLB Draft.

Anderson is coming off a 130-pitch complete game in the College World Series. LSU topped Coastal Carolina, 1-0, in the Men’s College World Series in Omaha. He struck out 10 and allowed just three hits in the win.

“That’s what we’ve seen all year,” Johnson said. “He’s the best pitcher in the country and did it again tonight. That’s been on the regular every Game 1 of the entire season. Everybody got to see what we’ve seen and known for an entire season.”

Johnson believes that it’s obvious – Anderson should go No. 1 overall next month.

Johnson said the pick for the Nationals should be clear.

“His next pitch should be somewhere in the Washington Nationals organization… He’s the best player in the country. There’s nobody closer to the major leagues than that,” he said.

There is no runaway favorite to go No. 1 overall in the 2025 MLB Draft next month. However, Anderson and Ethan Holliday, the younger brother of Baltimore Orioles star Jackson Holliday, are considered to be the frontrunners to get taken with the top overall selection.

The 2025 Men’s College World Series will continue on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN+.
