The El Camino College baseball staved off elimination in the 3C2A Super Regionals with an 8-5 win over Cerritos College Thursday.
Cameron O’Neil (West Torrance HS) pitched seven innings to get the win to improve to 10-3. He allowed four runs, three earned with three walks and four strikeouts. Slater Nunez (Torrance) pitched two innings to get the save.
ECC trailed 2-0 after two innings. With the scored tied 3-3, the Warriors scored three runs in the seventh on Aden Laureano’s (Redondo) solo home run and Lucas Bonham’s (El Segundo) two-run double for a 6-3 lead.
Cerritos cut the deficit to 6-4 on Brody Cuellar’s (Bishop Montgomery) home run in the seventh, but Gio Crow (San Pedro) and Nunez followed with RBI singles to give ECC an 8-4 lead.
Cerritos’ final run came in the ninth on Owen Martin’s (Narbonne) home run.
Nunez went 3 for 4 at the plate
The second game went much better than the first for the Warriors. In the opening game of the three-team super regional, the Warriors fell behind early against Glendale and never recovered, losing 23-7.
Friday’s schedule features Cerritos (0-1) in a must-win game against Glendale (1-0). El Camino will face Glendale at 3 p.m., needing a win to stay alive.
