New York Yankees starting pitcher Marcus Stroman is playing in his age-34 season, after being selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the first round of the 2012 MLB Draft.

Stroman has spent 11 seasons with the Blue Jays, New York Mets, and Chicago Cubs before joining the Yankees, signing a two-year, $37 million deal in the 2024 offseason, with a player option in 2026.
Fresh off an All-Star appearance with the Cubs in 2023, he entered New York with high expectations, yet his transition to the Yankees has been rocky. He did not pitch in the ALCS and lost his spot on the roster in the 2024 World Series last postseason, and his unwillingness to transition into a bullpen role this offseason has sparked controversy amongst fans and media.

Adding to his struggles, Stroman is currently on the injured list due to left knee inflammation. He was placed on the 15-day injured list in mid-April after a start in which he recorded only two outs and allowed five runs, highlighting his ongoing challenges on the mound.

In a new announcement, the Yankees revealed that Stroman is scheduled to start Tuesday night’s game for the Somerset Patriots (Double-A) as he continues his MLB rehab assignment.
It was also later reported that Stroman could make a return to the Yankees’ rotation that has been decimated by injuries this year (via Gary Phillips of NY Daily).
Even when healthy, Stroman has struggled this season, posting an 11.57 ERA, going 0–1 in three starts, across just 9.1 innings on the mound.
These struggles underscore the significant hurdles he faces in reclaiming his form as he attempts to contribute once again at the major league level.
