The Baltimore Orioles added some catcher depth to their franchise by signing veteran catcher Jacob Stallings to a minor league deal. Stallings is a former Gold Glove award winner (2021) and is in his 10th Major League season. He’s spent the last two years with the Rookies and was batting .143 in 28 games for Colorado this season.
The O’s currently have starting and All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman on the Injured List with an oblique strain. He is not expected to return until mid-July. Right now Gary Sanchez is in the lead role. The Birds also lost Maverick Handley for at least a week on the 7-day Injured List with a concussion from Sunday.
The Orioles recalled Chadwick Tromp yesterday after that injury.
The O’s 40-man has four catchers on it right now.
