The Texas Rangers scored six runs while the Baltimore Orioles scored five runs in ten innings.

It’s weird times when the Rangers play the Orioles. 30-run games. 16-run innings. 6-hit nights. Cycles. And now there’s no-hit bids by spot starters and a career-worst outing by pitchers on the same team.

After a few different injury scares over the last few weeks, Chris Martin probably isn’t fully healthy, but he’s got like three months left in his big league career so the Rangers are just kind of riding things out with a pitcher who is usually very reliable.

He wasn’t that tonight. Unless we’re talking reliably giving up home runs that is. If that’s what we’re talking about then Martin was about as reliable as they come. After having never even allowed back-to-back home runs in his career, Martin entered in a 4-0 game in the seventh inning with two on base and promptly gave up back-to-back-to-back home runs to erase Texas’ lead in a flash.

Nevertheless, the Rangers did tie the game a half inning later after Sam Haggerty decided to basically do it himself with a couple of stolen bases. That set up only the second extra inning game for Texas so far this season. Make it two for two with the Manfred Man as the Rangers scored in the bonus frame and the Orioles didn’t.

Player of the Game: After the Rangers received bad news about their in-house developed left-hander Cody Bradford needing surgery, in-house developed left-hander Jacob Latz stepped up and had the kind of outing that Texas would have hoped for from Bradford had he been healthy enough to take the mound.

Latz, who had been pitching out of the bullpen but had been built up enough by spearheading the Rangers’ bullpen game efforts in recent weeks to make a traditional start, went into the seventh inning with a no-hitter in the longest outing of his career.

He did not pick up a win and even had a couple of Martin-mess runs placed on his ledger despite allowing just one hit, but the Rangers did win so he’s probably not too broken up about it.

Up Next: The Rangers and Orioles close out this series with neither team yet able to name a starter for tomorrow’s finale.

The Wednesday evening tussle from Camden Yards is set for 5:35 pm CT and you’ll be thrilled to know that you can watch it on the Rangers Sports Network.
