On this edition of the Pirates’ Prospect Update series, we take a look at outfielder Edward Florentino, who is already turning heads in the Florida Coast League.
Pittsburgh signed Florentino to a Minor League contract during the international signing period last winter, and he was immediately assigned to the Summer team in the Dominican Republic. His time there was brief as at the beginning of 2025 saw him be assigned to the Florida Coast League Pirates.
His stint in the FCL was super successful and was a great indication as to how he can handle the work load of a full professional season. Florentino made his season debut at first base, but has since been seen in the outfield at all three positions. Already carrying 200 pounds on a 6’4” frame at just 18-years old he’s likely to fill out, so coaches are anticipating that he’ll likely end up at one of the corner spots or first base, but he has shown great promise in centerfield.
Pirates’ Edward Florentino was one of my favorite players I saw on the backfields this spring. After a slow start at the complex, Florentino has struck out just once in his last 9 games and has 13 hits over that span. The EVs are legit and Florentino is a good athlete at 6’4” pic.twitter.com/7BV2XeC7e2

Florentino ended his time with the FCL Pirates by picking up player of the week honors in the middle of the month. He earned player of the week honors after gathering 8 hits, 1 home-run, 6 RBIs, while having a batting average of .471. In 29 games with the FCL Pirates Florentino had splits of .347/.442/.642 with an OPS of 1.084. He tallied 33 hits with 6 homers, 23 RBIs, and 6 steals and has shown to be a competent hitter to this point.
The Bradenton Marauders would pickup his contract on June 21, as he showed a lot of promise in the FCL. Bradenton is likely where he’ll finish out the 2025 season, and a strong showing could have him primed and ready for a 2026 start in High-A.
⬛️#pirates OF prospect Edward Florentino debuted at Bradenton tonight. Here’s his 1st play in CF. We were tight coming back from break so the contact/path to the ball wasn’t aired (trust me I filmed it, it was perfect) but here’s the end. I look forward to more Flor #defense pic.twitter.com/OES3wZ5vmZ
