The West Island Mariners doubled up on the Dollard Royals for a 4-2 win in Lac St. Louis Region Baseball play at Dollard’s Westminster Park. The visitors built to a 3-0 lead, added a fourth run and held off a comeback bid by the home side from Dollard. Adrian Moore collected the win on the mound and Bauer Root earned the save with a three-up-three-down final at bats by the Royals. Moore had an impressive two innings of work as he struck out six straight Royal hitters.
The top of the second inning saw West Island stroke a quartet of hits to allow a trio of runners to reach home. Bauer Root’s leadoff single became the opening run of the contest as he wheeled his way home on Alexander Fletcher’s two-bagger. Joshua Rokov, who singled, made his way from third to home on an infield groundout to first to make it a 2-1 match. Fletcher upped the lead to 3-0, scoring on a single off the bat of Mathis Laberge. A trio of consecutive singles in the top of the third produced the fourth Mariner run. Eydan Perez made it home following hits by Moore and Patrick Millar.
Dollard got on the board in the home half of the third with a two-run two out rally to halve the West Island lead by making it a 4-2 contest. The Royals rapped out four hits to put those two points on the board. Zach Sacks opened the inning with a solid single, but that was followed up by a pair of outs. Ryan Azoulay kept the Royals’ inning alive with a single. That hit scored Sacks, who had advanced to third on the two infield outs. Eli Petel followed with a solid double sending Azoulay to third. Azoulay plated the second Dollard run on Nathan Landers’ single. That closed out the scoring as Root came on to shutdown the Royals in their final at bats. n
