Home runs ruled the day for most of the Dodgers minor leagues on Tuesday.

Player of the day

High-A Great Lakes cornerman Kyle Nevin has been back from the injured list a little over two weeks, but he’s red hot at the plate. He homered twice in a three-hit game on Tuesday, and also stole a base.

It’s the fourth multi-hit game in a row for Nevin, who has 15 RBI in his 10 games with the Loons, with seven extra-base hits. He played third base on Tuesday and has also played first base and left field this season.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

Home runs by James Outman, Hunter Feduccia, Chuckie Robinson, and Kody Hoese fueled a Comets romp over the Sacramento River Cats (Giants). Outman also doubled, and drove in three.

Matt Sauer happily accepted the support and struck out seven in his six innings, allowing only two runs.

Double-A Tulsa

The Drillers had 10 hits but managed to score only once in a road loss to the Frisco RoughRiders (Rangers). A three-run home run in the sixth inning off Kelvin Ramirez broke open a close game.

Tulsa in June is scoring just three runs per game, fueling 16 losses in 20 games, and they’ve been held to zero or one run seven times this month.

Patrick Copen allowed a run in the second inning but nothing else, despite traffic throughout his five innings with six hits and three walks. He was living with runners in scoring position as Frisco stole five bases against the 6’6 right-hander, but the RoughRiders were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position against him.

Copen in his 14 starts this season has allowed 27 steals in 31 attempts, including 11 out of 12 in his four Double-A outings.

High-A Great Lakes

A four-run Loons lead in the sixth inning turned into a back-and-forth contest, won by the Fort Wayne TinCaps (Padres) with a double and three walks in the bottom of the ninth inning.

In addition to Nevin’s big game, Mike Sirota reached base four times for Great Lakes with a home run, two singles, a walk, and three RBI. Sirota’s two-run shot in the eighth inning tied the score after the Loons bullpen gave up three runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.

Eriq Swan was wild with four walks in his four-inning start, but limited the damage thanks to his six strikeouts.

Low-A Rancho Cucamonga

The Quakes didn’t get a hit until the seventh inning, but then exploded for eight runs in the eighth. But that was only the start of it. The San Jose Giants scored three runs in the ninth to pull off the walk-off win.

Down 7-0 after seven frames, Rancho Cucamonga got five singles, four walks, and a double to take the lead in the eighth. After San Jose tied things in the bottom of the eighth, Niko Perez singled home two in the ninth to provide another Quakes lead.

Ryan Brown walked four in the bottom of the ninth to force home a run, pulling San Jose to within one. Myles Caba was called in with two outs and the bases loaded but allowed a two-run walk-off single.

Christian Zazueta was originally listed to start for the Quakes but did not pitch. They used six pitchers in a bullpen game instead.
