Skyline senior Izaiah Matthews was named to the Class 3 All-State Baseball Team.
Matthews was named as a second-team first baseman. Matthews batted .469 (30-for-64) with 11 doubles, one triple, five homers, 25 RBIs, 17 runs scored and nine stolen bases. Matthews was the Region 3B and the Class 3 Northwestern District Player of the Year.
The senior also went 6-2 on the mound with a 1.72 ERA in 57 innings and 51 strikeouts. Matthews was the only senior on Skyline’s squad, and helped lead them to the Region 3B semifinals and to a 14-8 record.
Abingdon’s Jett Humphreys was named Class 3 State Baseball Player of the Year. Spotswood’s Marcus Davis was named Class 3 State Baseball Coach of the Year.
