Red Sox Trade Pitch Sends Another All-Star to Giants After Rafael Devers Blockbuster originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

If one trade between the Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants featuring a former All-Star wasn’t enough, how about a second one?

Less than two weeks after the Red Sox unexpectedly dealt Rafael Devers to the Giants, Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer suggested the Giants make a similar move for Walker Buehler.

There’s obviously a massive difference, though, between Devers and Buehler—and we’re not talking about positions. Devers ranks among the league’s most prolific hitters, one capable of crushing home runs and working counts; his 60 walks trail only New York Mets superstar Juan Soto among MLB hitters, and his .390 OPS ranks eighth.

On the other hand, Buehler is a veteran pitcher whose best days might be behind him. The two-time All-Star owns a 6.29 ERA in 63 innings, and he’s posted a -2.4 bWAR the last two seasons.

“Buehler would at least bring more upside than an aged Justin Verlander and Landen Roupp,” Rymer argued, “and getting to pitch regularly at the offense-killing stadium that is Oracle Park could only help him unlock it.”

Buehler turns 31 in July, so we’re unsure how much he can still unlock. Although pitching at Oracle Park could help him limit his home runs, he still allows 4.1 walks per nine innings.

At 40-42, the Red Sox aren’t officially out of the playoff race like the Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Colorado Rockies. However, it’s getting late early, and it might not be long before Boston officially pivots to 2026.

We’re not going to rule out a Buehler trade, though the Giants can probably do better than the ex-Los Angeles Dodgers standout before the deadline.
