Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman has the ability to opt out of the remaining two years of his three-year, $120 million contract at the end of the 2025 season.

The opt out can be triggered five days after the World Series ends.

Agent Scott Boras told The Boston Globe’s Tim Healey that the 31-year-old and his family have really enjoyed their short time in Boston and that the camp is open to preemptive extension talks before Bregman’s opt-out deadline.

Where do the Red Sox stand? Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow was asked about it on WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show Thursday.

“The specifics of the conversations and the timing of the conversations will remain internal,” Breslow said. “But what I’m very comfortable saying is Alex has been everything we could have asked for both on the field — unfortunately, he’s obviously been hurt and hasn’t been able to impact games on the field — but also in the clubhouse from a leadership standpoint. Not just in the way he’s helped younger players and our staff but in the ways that he’s helped me and many of us in the front office. And so right now while we’re focused on doing everything we can to get him back on the field as quickly as possible, when the right time comes to have those conversations, very, very confident that we will.”

Bregman has been on the 15-day injured list since May 24 with a right quad strain and isn’t expected back until after the All-Star Break.

He batted .299 with a .385 on-base percentage, .553 slugging percentage, .938 OPS, 11 home runs, 17 doubles, 35 RBIs, 32 runs, 22 walks and 42 strikeouts in 51 games (226 plate appearances) before getting hurt. He also recorded five defensive runs saved in 446 ⅔ innings.

The Red Sox obviously have a ton of money available to spend after they traded Rafael Devers — and all $271.153 million remaining on his contract — to the Giants on June 15.
