CINCINNATI (WKRC) — Hundreds of local children received a special baseball lesson from Elly De La Cruz, the Cincinnati Reds star shortstop known for breaking records.

De La Cruz hosted a pro camp for more than 400 young players at Sycamore High School, welcoming boys and girls from first to eighth grade.

Participants had the opportunity to meet De La Cruz, take pictures, and even receive pitching and hitting tips from the baseball star himself.

He said that being able to reach out to young people is something that’s very important for him.

The Reds have a night off before starting a series against the Padres on Friday.
