MANSFIELD — The NP-Liberty Lady Mounties (9-3) dropped their second-straight contest of the 2025 season as the Troy Lady Trojans (8-5) used a late rally to stun the Lady Mounties here on Thursday, May 1 handing them their third loss of the year by a score of 4-2.

The Lady Trojans would put the Mounties on the ropes early, plating a run in the top of the first to go up 1-0, but the Liberty defense, paced by pitcher Elyna Booth, would settle in and hold the Lady Trojans scoreless for the next three innings.

On the other end, the Mounties would see some life on offense in the third as they took the lead with Booth and Madison Smith both knocking in runs to put Liberty up 2-1.

Maddie McNamara and Kaylee Graham scored the go-ahead runs for the Lady Mounties in the frame, but it would be the last time they would cross home plate in a tight defensive battle between two of the top teams in the NTL.

Two innings later, Troy would strike again with a three-run outburst that pulled them ahead at 4-2 — a lead they held on with their closing pitching hanging on despite the Mounties putting two runners on base with two outs left in the bottom of the seventh.

Despite only scoring two runs, Liberty was able to collect seven hits on the night, led by a strong showing from Haley Litzelman, who had two hits and a double in the effort.

McNamara also had a two-hit night and scored one of the only two runs for the Mounties.

Graham also went 2-3 on the day with a double and one run scored, while Keeha Rieppel added the final hit for the Mounties on the day.

Booth and Smith had the Mounties’ two RBIs during the contest.

On the mound, Booth turned in another strong day on the bump, where she allowed just seven hits, four runs (all earned, and struck out four batters, but was unable to pick up the win with the Lady Trojans putting together several timely hits during the game.

The Mounties suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season, but looked to bounce back on Wednesday on the road in Athens against the undefeated Lady Wildcats.

Their next contest is on the road against a non league opponent in Addison on Saturday, May, 9 at 5 p.m.
