Jo Adell and Travis d’Arnoud hit back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of thee fourth inning, and the Los Angeles Angels completed a sweep of their three-game series with the Boston Red Sox with a 5-2 win at Anaheim Wednesday.
The Angels reached .500, 40-40, with the win.
For the second straight day, all three Southern California MLB teams won. The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 8-1 at Colorado, and the San Diego Padres edged the Washington Nationals 1-0 at San Diego.
At press time Thursday, the Dodgers were to try to complete a sweep of their series against the Rockies that day. The Angels and Padres were off Thursday.
Max Muncy powered the Dodgers’ win Wednesday with six RBIs. Muncy hit a grand slam in the seventh. Michael Conforto homered for the second straight game for the Dodgers with a solo shot in the 8th.
Luis Arraez singled in the only run of the game in the second inning, and the Padres edged the Nationals Wednesday. Three Padres pitchers, starter Nick Pivetta, Jeremy Estrada and Adrian Morejon, combined on a three hitter. Pivetta gave up three hits over seven innings. Estrada pitched the eighth inning, and Morejon worked the ninth to earn his second save.
The Dodgers lengthened their lead in the National League West Division to 5.5 games. At press time, the San Francisco Giants had slipped into a second-place tie with the Padres.
In the back-and-forth in the NL East between the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets, the Mets had trimmed the Phillies’ lead to a half game at press time Thursday. The Mets finally won Wednesday after dropping nine of their previous 10. The Phillies had lost their last two going into their Thursday game at Houston against the Astros.
The Dodgers will open their series in Kansas City against the Royals Friday. The Padres will start their series in Cincinnati against the Reds that day, and the Angels will host the Nationals to open that series.  Â
