Who should represent Detroit Tigers in MLB All-Star game?

The “Days of Roar” podcast debates which players from the Detroit Tigers should make an appearance in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, set for July 15.

Another day, another delay.

The Detroit Tigers delayed first pitch against the Minnesota Twins on Friday, June 27, at Comerica Park due to the forecast of inclement weather. There have been seven rain delays in the past 10 days, spanning nine games.

The start time for Friday’s game — originally scheduled for 7:10 p.m. — has been set for 7:30 p.m.

The most recent rain delay occurred Tuesday, June 24, in the series opener against the Athletics at Comerica Park, but the final two games of that series — Wednesday, June 25, and Thursday, June 26 — weren’t interrupted by rain.

The pitching matchup for Friday’s game is Tigers right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long against Twins right-hander David Festa. The Tigers own a 5-6 record in their last 11 games, while the Twins have a 5-15 record in their last 20 games.

The Tigers have a 51-31 record in the 2025 season — the best mark in the American League and tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best in baseball. In the AL Central, they’re ahead of the Cleveland Guardians by 9½ games, the Twins by 11½ games and the Kansas City Royals by 12½ games.

“We know we have a good team,” Hinch said, “and we know that we have put together a long stretch of good baseball — good competitive baseball, but also just good winning baseball. … They don’t name any midseason champions. It doesn’t matter whether I think there’s something special going on or not. We have work to do to be a better team. … I love our team. I love the DNA of this team, the characters on this team, the preparation. I also know they need to be pushed. They ned to be pushed by not being content with where we are after 81 games. That’s my job.”
