Spencer Steer had quite the unforgettable night on Friday in the Reds’ game against the San Diego Padres.Steer scored not one, not two — but three home runs at Great American Ballpark.The final score was 8-1. Steer’s home runs led to half of the team’s eight total points throughout the game.No other Reds player has hit three home runs in a single game since former player Jesse Winker did it twice in 2021 — once against the Brewers in late May, and again weeks later against the Cardinals in early June.The Reds also almost had a no-hitter — the Padres only finally got a hit off in ninth inning.This was led by Nick Martinez, who pitched the vast majority of the game.In the ninth inning, the Padres’ Elias Diaz finally hit a double off Martinez. Shortly afterward, Martinez was relieved by Taylor Rogers, leading Diaz and the Padres to get on the board with a late-game run after two different players were walked back-to-back.If successful, it would have been the first no-hitter game across the MLB for the 2025 season.The Reds have not pitched a no-hitter since 2021, which was done by Wade Miley in a 3-0 win against the Cleveland Indians. After playing for different teams between 2022 and 2024, Miley was resigned to the Reds this year, and has pitched in three different games this season.
