Welcome to the 14th week of our NL Central Power Rankings! We’ll release these rankings each week to grade all five teams and place them one through five. As everyone knows with power rankings, these should be taken as gospel and they’re obviously 100% accurate. Without further ado, let’s rank some teams!

1. Milwaukee Brewers (46-36); 5-1 this week; 62.5% chance to make postseason (Baseball Reference)

The Brewers had another great week, sweeping the Twins and taking two of three against the Pirates. They won Friday’s series opener against the Rockies in Milwaukee.

Joey Ortiz and Caleb Durbin continue to impress after slow starts, as Ortiz hit .304/.333/.565 with a pair of homers and seven hits this week. Durbin had 10 hits, including a homer, while Brice Turang tacked on a team-high 11 hits, including a homer. Turang and Christian Yelich tied for the team lead with seven RBIs, and Sal Frelick also added nine hits.

Jacob Misiorowski continues to impress on the mound, as he outdueled Paul Skenes with five scoreless innings in his third win on Wednesday afternoon. Jose Quintana picked up a pair of wins as he allowed four runs and struck out six across 11 2⁄3 innings (3.09 ERA) in his two starts this week. Grant Anderson was the star of the bullpen, making five appearances and allowing just one unearned run with six strikeouts over five innings.

After finishing up with Colorado on Sunday, the Brewers have an off day Monday before an East Coast road trip to take on the Mets and Marlins.

2. Chicago Cubs (48-34); 3-4 this week; 91.4% chance to make postseason

The Cubs dropped two of three to the Mariners before splitting four games with the Cardinals in St. Louis to begin the week. They then dropped Friday’s series opener with the Astros in Houston.

This was a big week for Cubs home runs, as Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, and Kyle Tucker each had three homers, while Michael Busch, Nico Hoerner, and Reese McGuire each hit a pair. Happ’s eight RBIs led the team, while Hoerner’s nine hits and .375/.444/.625 line led the way.

Matthew Boyd and Shota Imanaga both picked up a win for the Cubs, as they went six and five scoreless innings, respectively. Brad Keller got the other win out of the bullpen, while Ryan Brasier, Michael Fulmer, Porter Hodge, and Ryan Pressly also worked scoreless outings.

Chicago wraps up with the Astros on Sunday before an off day Monday. They’ll then begin July with a homestand against the Guardians and Cardinals.

3. St. Louis Cardinals (45-38); 4-3 this week; 44.1% chance to make postseason

The Cards took two of three against the Reds and split their home series with the Cubs this week. They won their series opener against the Guardians on Friday evening.

Alec Burleson has a huge week offensively, slugging three homers and two doubles over 28 at-bats. Nolan Gorman and Lars Nootbaar also hit a pair of homers, with Masyn Winn scoring a team-high five runs and driving in five runs on six hits.

Sonny Gray threw a complete-game shutout and totaled 14 innings with one earned run (0.64 ERA) and 16 strikeouts in his two starts this week. Matthew Liberatore also got the win with two runs allowed over seven innings, while Phil Maton, Matt Svanson, and Ryan Helsley all worked scoreless outings from the bullpen.

St. Louis will wrap up their long road trip with visits to the Guardians, Pirates, and Cubs through next weekend.

4. Cincinnati Reds (43-39); 4-2 this week; 23.8% chance to make postseason

The Reds dropped two of three to the Cardinals and won two of three over the Yankees this week. They then had Thursday off before taking their series opener against the Padres on Friday.

Spencer Steer and Elly De La Cruz tied for the team lead with 12 hits apiece, with Steer hitting three homers on Friday night. He finished the week with six RBIs and five runs scored, while De La Cruz drove in six runs, scored seven runs, hit a pair of homers, and tripled twice. The rest of the offense struggled, however, as no other players had more than five hits.

Nick Martinez, who has worked in a swing role this season, made three appearances (one start) this week, allowing just one run on one hit over 11 innings (0.82 ERA), including a no-hit bid that lasted until the ninth inning on Friday night. Nick Lodolo allowed one run over 4 1⁄3 innings, while Chase Burns made his MLB debut with eight strikeouts and three earned runs over five innings against the Yankees.

The Reds begin July with an East Coast trip against the Red Sox and Phillies this week.

5. Pittsburgh Pirates (33-50); 3-3 this week; <0.1% chance to make postseason

The Pirates dropped two of three to the Rangers and Brewers this week before an off day on Thursday. They won their series opener against the Mets on Friday night.

Bryan Reynolds, Tommy Pham, and Nick Gonzales all homered this week, with Reynolds leading the Bucs with 10 hits and Pham hitting .533/.529/.867 with a homer, two doubles, eight RBIs, and three runs scored. Ke’Bryan Hayes and Spencer Horwitz also had a solid week with seven hits each.

Mitch Keller allowed four runs (three earned) over 11 innings (2.45 ERA) in two starts this week, striking out a team-high nine hitters. Isaac Mattson worked three scoreless innings with six strikeouts, while David Bednar picked up a save with three strikeouts over two innings.

Pittsburgh wraps up their homestand with the Mets and Cardinals on Wednesday before another off day on Thursday. They then finish up the first half with a road trip that begins in Seattle on July 4.
