Two of the Mets’ top pitching prospects delivered solid starts in their teams’ games on Friday evening. In Syracuse’s loss, Nolan McLean limited a Rochester Red Wings lineup filled with major league talent to two runs on six hits. Meanwhile, Jonah Tong tore through the Portland Sea Dogs lineup, recording eight strikeouts on just 92 pitches.

Box Score

The Mets were outclassed offensively on Friday, falling to the Rochester Red Wings. Since their demotions earlier this week, Francisco Alvarez has yet to record a hit, while Luisangel Acuña has reached base in all three games – including two doubles on Thursday and two walks on Friday.

McLean was solid once again for Syracuse, tossing six quality innings and allowing two runs on six hits. In his nine Triple-A starts, he has allowed more than two earned runs only once, and his cumulative season ERA sits at 2.25.

In his fourth Double-A game, Jacob Reimer launched his first home run for the Rumble Ponies — his ninth of the year. Carson Benge also recorded his first multi-hit game at the Double-A level and has reached base in all four games with the Rumble Ponies.

RHP Jonah Tong: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K (1.73 ERA)
RHP Hunter Parsons: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
LHP Daniel Juarez: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

It was another typically dominant outing from Jonah Tong in 2025. On Friday, he struck out eight Sea Dogs over six innings on just 92 pitches. Through 73 innings this season, he has racked up 115 strikeouts while issuing only 33 walks. Tong has once again proven that he’s surpassed the Double-A level, and a promotion to the Syracuse pitching staff feels imminent.

Brooklyn Cyclones (51-22) 6, Jersey Shore BlueClaws (27-43) 3
Box Score

Despite the team going 2-for-13 with RISP, the Brooklyn Cyclones scored three in eight innings to steal a win against the Jersey BlueClaws. Despite losing their top two hitters to promotion, the Cyclones still have plenty of top prospect firepower in Suero, Ewing, Baez, and Serrano.

RHP R.J. Gordon: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K (2.89 ERA)
RHP Hoss Brewer:  1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Raimon Gomez: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Gordon, a former Oregon Duck, has been an incredibly consistent factor for the Brooklyn starting pitching rotation – in his first three months of professional baseball, Gordon has posted ERAs of 2.70, 3.18, and 3.18 (2.89 cumulative ERA).

Snyder collected the second four-hit game of his young professional career, but he has yet to truly showcase his power at the plate (seen by his .366 slugging percentage on the season).

Aracena was dynamic once again for the St. Lucie Mets, throwing 5.2 innings and striking out eight Jupiter batters. His fastball sat at 95.8 mph and touched 97-plus throughout his appearance.

Both of the Mets Dominican Summer League squads dropped their games on Friday – DSL Mets Blue lost 6-5 and DSL Mets Orange lost 10-5. Elian Peña followed up his three HR performance on Thursday with a 1-1 and three walk game. After his tough start to the season, the Mets’ 2025 top international signing has begun to get hot in the last week of June.
