The 2025 MLB Draft is just over two weeks away, and in the latest MLB Pipeline mock draft on Thursday, Jonathan Mayo projected the Dodgers would select Luke Stevenson, the catcher from North Carolina with their first pick, No. 40 overall.

The Dodgers also have the 41st pick in the draft due to the trade of Gavin Lux to the Reds in January. Mayo on Thursday in his mock draft had the Dodgers taking local third baseman and outfielder Quentin Young from Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village with their second pick. Young has been mentioned in several mock drafts to the Dodgers, and we wrote about him back in March.

Stevenson, a left-handed batter, hit .251/.414/.552 with 19 home runs and 10 doubles in 61 games for the Tar Heels this season as a sophomore.

Perhaps the most notable state for the catcher, who turns 21 on July 22, is that he says he makes 1,500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches per year, and eats them in the dugout dring games.

The ACC Tournament’s broadcast crew couldn’t believe it.

Whether Stevenson is available when the Dodgers pick all the way at 40th overall remains to be seen. MLB Pipeline ranks the durable catcher as the 33rd-best prospect in the draft, while Baseball America ranks Stevenson No. 24 overall.

From Baseball America:

He’s an above-average defender who embraces the role of being a team leader behind the plate. Stevenson is excellent at getting the umpire to widen his strike zone by an inch or two to both sides of the plate, and he has the quick hands to drag low pitches into the zone. Stevenson will flash plus pop times thanks to above-average arm strength as well as a quick transfer and his ability to explode out of his crouch. There are concerns about how much Stevenson will hit.

The 2025 MLB Draft is a two-day affair from Atlanta this year, starting on Sunday, July 14.
