MOUNT PLEASANT — The Keokuk High School softball team took a victory over Mount Pleasant Thursday.
The 13-8 Southeast Conference win was fueled by the pitching of Gracie Thompson and the bat of Kylie Sisk.
Thompson pitched all seven innings with nine hits, six walks, two hit batters and eight strikeouts.
Keokuk led 3-2 after the first inning, trailed 5-3 after the second inning and 8-6 after the third.
Sisk got the Chiefs started as the second batter of the first inning. Suzie Whitaker was hit by a pitch then Sisk hit a pitch over the fence, her first career home run.
Sisk went 3-for-5 in the game. Whitaker was 3-for-4. Ada Wood went 3-for-5 with a triple. Kenadi Ames was 3-for-5. Makayla Weilandich and Bella Crew both went 2-for-4.
Thompson settled in as the game wore on. She didn’t walk a batter after the third inning. She faced just two batters over the minimum in the last four innings, setting the Panthers down in order in the fifth and seventh innings.
Keokuk scored one run in the fourth inning to get within 8-7, then put up two runs in each of the remaining innings.
The Chiefs (3-21) played Solon (14-11) and Cedar Rapids Prairie (14-12) Friday in the Solon Classic in Solon. On Saturday the Chiefs will play both Iowa City Regina (4-12) and Class 4A’s sixth-ranked Clear Creek-Amana (21-5-1) at Clear Creek-Amana.
