The Brewers are reportedly calling up C/INF Anthony Seigler from Triple-A Nashville.

The Milwaukee Brewers are calling up third baseman and catcher Anthony Seigler to MLB, per sources.

Seigler, acquired from the Yankees in the offseason, has definitely earned this promotion. He’s slashing .277/.416/.465/ on the year with seven home runs. Seigler has mainly been a second baseman and catcher throughout his minor league career, but has been taking reps at third base in recent weeks. I’ve been pounding the drum for him every week in my minor league roundup column, so I’m excited to see what he can do with Milwaukee.

Seigler’s profile is interesting — he doesn’t have a ton of raw power, but has great exit velocity and hard-hit numbers. This, along with his barrel percentage, suggests that he’s been great at barreling the ball up this season.

Former 2018 1st round pick Anthony Seigler (25, AAA, MIL) appears to have reinvented himself since joining the Brewers’ organization. He currently has a .281/.428/.518 slash (157 wRC+) across 145 AAA PAs. This includes 6 HRs and 10 SBs. Seigler has also been splitting time evenly… pic.twitter.com/WnwNpIQTsH

Another note about Seigler: he’s technically ambidextrous and has been a switch hitter throughout his career. However, this year Seigler has been abysmal as a righty (.097 batting average) and great as a lefty. He recently stopped hitting righty at all, facing left-handed pitchers as a left-handed hitter.

No corresponding move has been announced yet, and there’s nobody obviously deserving of a demotion on the roster right now. It’s possible the Brewers are finally placing William Contreras on the IL due to a broken finger that he’s been toughing out all year. Contreras has a 103 OPS+ this season, which would be his worst mark as a Brewer by a good margin. Other than that, maybe Daz Cameron? Either way, we should find out soon.
