YORK – The Kelly’s Fastpitch 18U softball team started Saturday off rough, but ended on a high note as the team finished 1-2 over their three games played.
Starting in the first game, Kelly’s Fastpitch 18U struggled to get runs going until late in the game and committed four errors in the contest, falling 8-2 to Cavalry 16U Brabec.
Cavalry held a 1-0 lead early on before blowing the game open with a five-run thrid inning.
Kelly’s two runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Averie Luettel blasted a two-run homer over the center field fence.
In the second game of the day, Kelly’s bats went cold, collecting no hits while committing three errors in the field as the fell to Prodigy Chrastil National 18U 7-0.
Despite dropping their first two games of the day, Kelly’s Fastpich 18U was able to turn the tide in their final game of the day, jumping out to an early lead as they doubled-up West Point Bluejays 10-5.
After West Point would get on the board first with two runs in the top of the first, Kelly’s Fastpitch 18U would respond with four runs in the bottom of the inning when a Bailey Kassmeier walk scored a run and Luettel brought home three runs on a homer to center field.
Six more runs would come across for Kelly’s in the bottom of the second when another walk by Kassmeier scored a run; an error tacket on another run; Kaelyn Halsey singled to score a run; Joslyn Schrad and Lola Kelberlau each scored runs on a walk; and a steal of home scored another run.
