The Pittsburgh Pirates hosted the New York Mets for the first of a three-game series last Friday night at PNC Park.

However, things took a turn at the top of the second inning when pillars of smoke were seen outside the MLB stadium on the right field side.

A fire broke out at the gastropub Meat & Potatoes near PNC Park, per Pittsburgh Scanner on X.

The Pirates’ TV broadcast, SportsNet Pittsburgh, showed the smoke as Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil hit a line drive out to the center fielder Alexander Canario.

Once the out was made, the cameras captured the scene as part of the city’s skyline was blocked by the smoke coming out outside of PNC Park.

“It doesn’t look good. Starting to smell the smoke over here now as well,” Pirates color commentator Joe Block said.

Another shot zoomed in on the smoke coming out of the restaurant as the cameras zoomed back out and showed the famous Robert Clemente Bridge and Renaissance Hotel near the spectacle.

MLB fans reacted to the live TV moment on social media.

“Hope everyone is alright,” one wrote.

“Noooo,” another commented.

“I’ve eaten there. I hope it wasn’t completely destroyed,” a third said.

“‘Holy s***,” a fourth added.

Fortunately, minutes later, the fire was reported to be out.

And no one was reported to be injured from the situation.

The Pirates would go on to beat the Mets by a score of 9-1.

The last-place Buccos stunningly completed the sweep of the Mets on Sunday with a 12-1 win.

Pittsburgh won each game by more than seven runs, which is just the third time in history the team has done so in a series of at least three games.

The Pirates will look to continue their recent winning ways as they host the second-place St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night.
