Blue Jays Announce Anthony Santander News Before Yankees Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Toronto Blue Jays (45-38) head into the Bronx to face the New York Yankees on Monday night looking to build on a solid run that has kept them firmly in the American League playoff picture. Toronto closed out its weekend set with the Boston Red Sox on a positive note, taking a 5-3 win at Fenway Park.

That result capped a stretch that has seen the Blue Jays win six of their last ten games, leaving them third in the AL East, just three games behind the Yankees. Toronto’s impressive stint has come despite the absence of some of its key players, including outfielder Anthony Santander, who has been sidelined since May 30 due to inflammation in his left shoulder (and hip).

Ahead of Monday’s game, general manager Ross Atkins revealed that Santander suffered a subluxation in his left shoulder, describing it as having “popped in and out.”

While Santander has not yet resumed swinging a bat, Atkins said he could begin swings soon and a return before the All-Star break has not been ruled out.

Santander, who signed a five-year, $92.5 million deal in January, has struggled this season, batting just .179 with six home runs over 50 games before being placed on the injured list on May 30.

His shoulder issues, coupled with hip soreness, have limited his participation. Despite a platelet-rich plasma injection in early June and resumed throwing, he has not progressed to batting practice yet (via CBS).

His absence has forced the Blue Jays to rely on other bats to generate offense. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and Alejandro Kirk have all contributed in recent weeks to help keep the team afloat, while younger players like Addison Barger and Nathan Lukes have also stepped up to the occasion.
