New York entered Monday’s bout with the Toronto Blue Jays 1.5 games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays and three games ahead of Toronto. Monday started a four-game series between the Yankees and Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre.
Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham is partially responsible for the team’s success this season, as he entered Monday with 15 homers and 32 RBI through 71 games. His homer total was already tied for a career-high.

However, Grisham left the game early with an injury, via MLB.com’s Brian Hoch. There was initial uncertainty among fans as to what caused his exit. At this time of year, there is always speculation of trades, but no reports surfaced of Grisham saying farewell to his teammates in the dugout.

Not too long after his departure, the Yankees announced that the veteran exited with left hamstring tightness. This confirmed it was injury related, and had nothing to do with trade rumors.
Grisham entered the night slashing .244/.346/.467 for the season. He is in his seventh MLB season and second with the Yankees.
Blue Jays starting pitcher Max Scherzer made his third start of the season on Monday after rehabbing a thumb injury. He finished with two runs allowed on three hits in five innings. New York infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a two-run homer in the fourth that plated Grisham.
