CLEVELAND, Ohio — This is a preview of the three-game series between the Guardians and Cubs that starts Tuesday night.

Series: The two teams have not played each other since 2023 when the Guardians went 3-0 against Cubs. Cleveland leads, 20-16, overall.
Guardians update (40-42): They’re coming off a 1-5 homestand and a 9-16 June. Shortstop Gabriel Arias (left ankle)is expected to be placed on the injured list before the start of the series. Guardians are 8-2 in their last 10 games against the Cubs.
Cubs updates (49-35): The NL Central-leaders have lost six of their last 10 games. Boyd, who pitched for Cleveland last year, leads the staff with a 2.65 ERA. He is 1-3 with a 4.84 ERA in his last five starts against Cleveland. Seiya Suzuki leads the team with 22 homers and 69 RBI.

Guardians: RHP Andrew Walters (right lat), RHP Ben Lively (right elbow), OF Will Brennan (left forearm), RHP Paul Sewald (right shoulder), RHP Shane Bieber (right elbow), RHP Trevor Stephan (right elbow), LHP John Means (left elbow) and LHP Sam Hentges (left shoulder) are on the injured list. RHP Cade Smith (back spasms) and SS Gabriel Arias (left ankle) are day to day.
Cubs: C Miguel Amaya (left oblique), RHP Eli Morgan (left elbow), RHP Javier Assad (left oblique) and LHP Justin Steele (left elbow) are on the injured list.
