We already know Shohei Ohtani was voted to start the All-Star Game. Technically, seven other Dodgers position players have a chance to join him in the National League lineup, still alive in fan voting running from Monday to Wednesday this week.

But let’s look at which Dodgers are actually likely to be named to the All-Star team.

Will Smith had a commanding lead at catcher in the first round of fan voting. The ballot resets for the final round of voting, but with all due respect to Cubs backstop Carson Kelly, Smith is very clearly deserving to start for the NL in the All-Star Game. Smith leads the league in on-base percentage and batting average, and leads all NL catchers in slugging percentage, wRC+, and WAR.

Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts definitely fit the bill in the star portion of All-Star, and both are popular enough and have the pedigree to potentially win a fan vote, even against players (Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor) at their positions having better seasons.

Teoscar Hernández was second in the first round of fan voting among NL outfielders and Andy Pages was fifth. Voting totals reset for the second round, and while Pages is having the better season, Hernández is probably more likely to be voted by fans to start. But there’s also the players vote to consider.

Max Muncy is battling Manny Machado among NL third basemen for the fan vote, but the position has a jumble at the top with those two in addition to Eugenio Suárez and Matt Chapman.

Tommy Edman got the second-most votes among NL second baseman, but that’s clearly Ketel Marte’s starting spot.

We’ll dig into these specific position battles later this week.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto is probably the most likely Dodgers pitcher to make the All-Star team, fifth in the NL in ERA (2.61) and sixth in xERA (3.05), but he’s also up against a group of starting pitchers, 21 of whom have pitched more innings that Yamamoto to date.

Among relievers, high save totals usually get recognized when it comes to All-Star rosters, and Tanner Scott is tied for second in the National League with 18 of them, to go with 42 strikeouts against only six walks. Scott was an All-Star last year while with the Marlins.

The Dodgers in 2024 had six players make the All-Star team, including Betts and Tyler Glasnow, who did not play while on the injured list. They had five All-Stars in 2023, and six All-Stars in 2022.

Today’s question is how many Dodgers will be named to the National League All-Star team this year?

All-Star starters will be announced this Wednesday, with full rosters unveiled on Sunday.
