Looking to kick off their six-game road trip the right way, the Los Angeles Angels got the bats going late in a 4-0 shutout victory over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night at Truist Park. The Halos are now back .500 once again at 42-42 and 22-22 in away games.
As the lineup struggled to produce early against Atlanta starter Grant Holmes, Tyler Anderson also held his own on the mound as the two pitchers dueled through the opening six innings. Anderson, making his 17th start, allowed just four hits and matched a season-high with seven strikeouts.Â
The 35-year-old even managed to strike out Ronald Acuña Jr. three times in the process, earning just his third scoreless outing of 2025 and first since April 18. Following his outing, the Angels are now 84 games into the season, having only used five starting pitchers. It is the fourth-deepest run into a season while only using five starters over the past ten years.

Meanwhile, Atlanta’s Grant Holmes allowed just three hits over his six frames while striking out ten of his own. Los Angeles did not tally their first hit or get a runner in scoring position until the fourth inning.
With both starters out of the game after their dominant performances, Jose Fermin and Pierce Johnson each threw a scoreless seventh to bring a 0-0 contest into the eighth. The Angels finally found their stride with the bats in the eighth.
Up against the typically sharp left-hander Dylan Lee (1.67 ERA heading into Tuesday), Mike Trout lined a one-out double to get Los Angeles in business. Taylor Ward followed with the squad’s fourth walk of the game before Jo Adell broke through, lining a go-ahead double down the left field line.
The outfielder continues to look red-hot, coming through with a big RBI hit after finishing June with a .293 average, 19 RBI and a league-leading 11 home runs.Â
Lee was then relieved by Enyel De Los Santos, who immediately allowed a two-run double to Jorge Soler that gave the Angels some big insurance.
It was a productive day at the dish for Soler, who finished 1-2 with a walk and came through in the clutch. Los Angeles wasn’t done adding on, however, as Luis Rengifo’s RBI single two batters later made it a four-run frame.
Reid Detmers and Kenley Jansen had no issues finishing off the night as each dealt a scoreless frame to get the Angels across the finish line. It was a well-rounded pitching effort overall as the Atlanta lineup finished 0-7 with runners in scoring position.
Back at .500 for the ninth time this season, Los Angeles will finally look to get over the hump on Wednesday as they battle Atlanta in the second game of three. Left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (3-6, 2.79 ERA) will toe the rubber against Braves’ right-hander Didier Fuentes (0-2, 10.80 ERA).
First pitch is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. PT.
