Washington, D.C. — The Tigers weren’t optimistic about getting a baseball game in Tuesday night.

“If they call it right away, great,” outfielder Riley Greene said. “We can get back, get plenty of rest and be ready for the doubleheader. If they say we’re going to play tonight, great. We’re here and we’re ready. Those are the best scenarios.”

The worst, of course, would’ve been if they dragged out the decision well beyond the 6:45 p.m. game time.

Alas, it was called more than two hours before game time because of inclement weather.

It will be made up as part of a split doubleheader Wednesday. Game 1 will be at 1:05 p.m., with Game 2 — the originally scheduled game — on tap for 6:45 p.m.

Lefty Tyler Holton will open the first game, which is the makeup. It is unclear who the bulk reliever will be, but there are multiple candidates — Sawyer Gipson-Long, potentially Reese Olson coming off the injured list or the 27th man.

The Nationals will start right-hander Trevor Williams.

In the nightcap, Jack Flaherty will start against lefty MacKenzie Gore.
