Diamondbacks pitcher Jordan Montgomery on Ken Kendrick’s criticism after last season

Montgomery: ‘I’ve told them I’ve got two older brothers, so it’s not going to hurt my feelings.”

MLB spring training is here and many MLB predictions for the 2025 season have come with it.

One that really caught our attention? MLB.com did a story about the MLB teams most likely to make the MLB playoffs in the upcoming season after missing out in 2024 and it included the Arizona Diamondbacks. And it included some very positive comments about Arizona’s chances in 2025.

Will Leitch wrote: “The biggest free agent upset of the offseason has to be the Diamondbacks signing Corbin Burnes. You rarely even saw Arizona connected to the top starting pitcher on the market, let alone considered as a favorite for his services. But it turns out Burnes really did just want to go home again, to the state where he and his family reside. His addition makes this team a serious force to be reckoned with, and if it weren’t for the Dodgers, you’d have to consider the Diamondbacks the clear favorite in the division.”

Arizona Diamondbacks ‘very likely’ to make MLB playoffs

That probably sounds like music to Diamondbacks fans’ ears after the team followed up its surprise World Series visit in 2023 with an up-and-down 2024 season.

But Leitch wasn’t done.

He continued: “Alas, the Dodgers are still around — and then some — which means the Wild Card is the most likely destination for the D-backs. But with Corbin Carroll likely to rebound from last year, Ketel Marte playing like an MVP and a rotation that might just be the strongest in baseball right now, the D-backs are very likely to punch a ticket back to October.”

What are the Arizona Diamondbacks MLB playoff odds?

That prediction got us wondering about the Diamondbacks’ odds for 2025. BetMGM Sportsbook lists Arizona as +3000 to win the World Series, which is tied for 12th in the odds.

It has the Diamondbacks at +1500 to win the National League, tied for sixth.

The DBacks are +1000 to win the NL West, third behind the Los Angeles Dodgers (-475) and San Diego Padres (+1000).

Arizona is also at -115 to make the MLB postseason and at -105 to not make it.

Will the Diamondbacks make a return to the playoffs in 2025?

It might be hard to bet against them, at least according to Leitch’s prediction.
