KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Bobby Witt Jr. will have to wait another year to start his first MLB All-Star Game.
The Royals’ 25-year-old shortstop was snubbed for the AL’s starting All-Star spot in favor of Athletics rookie Jacob Wilson during Phase 2 of All-Star voting.
Wilson received 52% of the vote, and Witt Jr. got 48%, MLB announced.
Witt Jr. has a .286 batting average, 11 home runs, 45 RBI and 21 stolen bases. Wilson had fewer home runs, RBI and stolen bases, but tallied 11 more hits and a .339 batting average, which is second-best in the MLB.

Witt Jr. also has 12 outs above average, which is eighth-best in baseball. Meanwhile, Wilson is a below-average defender at shortstop according to the same metric.
Full MLB All-Star rosters will be revealed Sunday at 6 p.m. Witt Jr. will make the team as a reserve for the second season in a row and could be joined by several other teammates.
