Former Kansas State right-hander Carson Seymour was called up to the big leagues for the first time Friday.
The San Francisco Giants promoted Seymour from Triple-A Sacramento ahead of their weekend series at the Chicago White Sox. The 26-year-old made his debut out of the bullpen in a 5-2 loss on Sunday.
Seymour threw one scoreless inning in the eighth, allowing two singles to the first three batters he faced before getting out of the inning unscathed.
San Francisco continues a 16-game stretch without a day off heading into this week.
Seymour, a sixth-round pick by the New York Mets in the 2021 MLB Draft, was traded to San Francisco in 2022 as part of the deal that sent Darin Ruf to New York. In 15 starts this season at Triple-A, Seymour posted a 3.89 ERA with 83 strikeouts across 74 innings.
He pitched two seasons at K-State after transferring from Dartmouth. During his redshirt sophomore season, he made 10 starts and four relief appearances, finishing with 57 strikeouts and a 6.19 ERA in 56 2/3 innings. His top outings included six shutout innings against Northern Illinois and a six-inning relief win over Baylor at the Big 12 Championship.
Before arriving in Manhattan, Seymour also pitched in the Cape Cod League and the Northwoods League during the summer.
When he began his college career at Dartmouth, he made eight appearances as a freshman.
Seymour is the fourth former Wildcat to play in the majors this season. Left-hander Jordan Wicks made two appearances for the Chicago Cubs earlier this year before being optioned to Triple-A Iowa.
Outfielder Nick Martini began the season on the Colorado Rockies’ Opening Day roster but was designated for assignment in May and later signed a minor-league deal with the Oakland Athletics.
Will Brennan, who has been up and down between the majors and Triple-A with the Cleveland Guardians since his debut in 2022, is currently on the 60-day injured list after undergoing UCL surgery. He will miss the rest of the 2025 season.
