The Texas Rangers are trending toward selling at this year’s trade deadline. That could make outfielder Adolis García a name to watch.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, García is “a rather interesting trade candidate” given the scarcity of quality right-handed bats on the market.

The former American League Championship Series MVP is under club control through next season and remains a fan favorite in Texas. However, his inconsistent offensive production could lead the Rangers to explore their options.

In late May, the Rangers gave him a three-game break to work on mechanical adjustments. The pause seemed to help as García has since batted .287 with a .761 OPS. However, if he regresses in the second half, Rosenthal notes he could become a non-tender candidate. That possibility becomes more likely with his salary already at $10.5 million through arbitration.

While a still strong defender and trending upward at the plate, García’s trade value might peak this July. The Rangers don’t have many enticing expiring contracts, making him one of their more applying trade chips.

Right-hander Tyler Mahle, sidelined with shoulder soreness, and Jon Gray, still recovering from a fractured forearm, would have drawn interest but likely won’t return in time. That leaves García as a key name to monitor as Texas weighs its deadline strategy.
