KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – After a brief stint in Triple-A, Kansas City Royals second baseman Michael Massey has been returned from his rehab assignment for a reevaluation.
The Royals announced Thursday that Massey’s rehab assignment with the Omaha Storm Chasers was over but that he’ll be reevaluated before returning to play.
Massey played in five games with the Storm Chasers last week in Indianapolis. He exited a game on June 29 after being hit by a pitch.
In 12 at-bats, Massey totaled five hits and a .417 batting average. He also hit a home run during his rehab debut.
Massey, a 27-year-old who has struggled this season with the Major League club, was on a rehab assignment for a left ankle sprain that sent him to the injured list on June 10.
Bobby Witt Jr. comes up short of starting in the All-Star Game and KC Current ownership continues pursuing the WNBA. Neal Jones and Gabe Swartz discuss.
Massey has struggled this season, posting a career-worst .202 batting average and .221 on-base percentage and .258 slugging percentage.
Last season, the Illinois native struggled with a back injury that caused him to miss a significant portion of the season.
