Colson Montgomery, welcome to The Show.
The Southridge High School graduate is reportedly getting a call up to the Chicago White Sox beginning with a series at Colorado on July 4. It would be the Major League Baseball debut for the former first round draft pick. Kris Norton of WITZ in Dubois County broke the news through confirmation via Montgomery’s family.
Montgomery was a multi-sport star athlete for the Raiders. The 6-3 shortstop helped Southridge reached the IHSAA state championship three times and won the Class 3A title in 2021 against Hanover Central. Montgomery also finished his career as the school’s all-time leading scorer in basketball.
He was drafted 22nd overall in 2021 and quickly rose the ranks in the White Sox organization. Montgomery reached AAA prior to the 2024 season and was a top 10 overall prospect in professional baseball. Injuries led to a down year at Charlotte with a .214 average in 130 games.
He started slow again this spring, which led to a visit in Arizona for individualized work. But upon his return in May, Montgomery has found a groove at the plate. The Southridge graduate is batting .284 with six home runs, 17 RBIs and 1.003 OPS since June 5. He was named the Internation League AAA Player of the Week on June 30 after collecting 11 hits, seven for extra bases, in 22 at-bats.
Montgomery is ranked the 95th overall prospect per MLB.com. The White Sox were 28-58 heading into their series finale at Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday night.
