Yankees Facing Backlash After Roster Announcement on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The New York Yankees are having their typical midseason slump, and the Toronto Blue Jays are reaping the benefits. The Blue Jays swept the Yankees in a four-game series at home for the first time in franchise history from Monday to Thursday, and they now lead both the Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays by one game atop the AL East.

New York was 13-14 in June and is 0-3 in July thus far, one year after going a combined 25-26 in June and July. The club later won the AL pennant, so there’s still reason for hope in the Bronx.

The Yankees made roster moves ahead of their clash with the New York Mets on Friday afternoon, via their social media.

The club recalled right-handed pitcher Scott Effross and left-handed pitcher Jayvien Sandridge from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while also placing right-handed pitcher Clarke Schmidt on the 15-day injured list with right forearm tightness.

The latter hurler exited after three innings in Thursday’s 8-5 loss due to his injury.

Yankees fans aren’t happy on social media.

“WHEN WILL THE PITCHING INJURIES END?” one asked.

“See you in 2027, Clarke,” another said.

“Watching sports is supposed to be relaxing, enjoyable… The Yankees are killing me,” another said.

“This org is just getting more and more laughable,” another said. “How are you gonna let Clarke pitch for multiple games with tightness? It’s unbelievable.”

“The only roster move we wanna read or hear about is the firing of Aaron Boone,” another said.

Schmidt admitted that he has had forearm tightness since June 4 against the Cleveland Guardians, according to MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch.
