Friday night pitching matchups:

Eduardo Rodriguez will come into Friday night’s matchup with a 3–4 record and 5.13 ERA. Making his ninth start of the season, the veteran lefty is looking to keep up his recent stretch of decent starts, as he hasn’t allowed more than one earned run in his last three outings.

Arizona’s offense has been heating up over the past two weeks, led by Ketel Marte. Marte has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, With Corbin Carroll beginning his rehab assignment in Reno, the D-backs are hoping to stay afloat until their star returns. Kansas City, meanwhile, has been inconsistent at the plate. Bobby Witt Jr. continues to lead the Royals in nearly every offensive category, but he’s gotten little support from the rest of the lineup in recent weeks.

The D-Backs come in at 43–44, still very much in the thick of the NL Wild Card picture. The Royals sit at 41–47, needing a strong July to stay relevant in the AL Central. Arizona will be banking on a quick start to take pressure off the bullpen. Can the D-backs chase Bubic early and lean on their deep lineup to control the tempo? If so, Arizona could have a clear path to a series-opening win.
