Despite being arguably the most active team in the offseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers find themselves shorthanded once again.

At this year’s trade deadline, the Dodgers could very well pursue an outfielder, a reliever, and starting pitcher. ESPN’s David Schoenfield suggests the defending champions must acquire another starter to add to the depleted rotation.
“It’s hard to believe the Dodgers might need another starting pitcher after all the money they’ve invested in their rotation, but we still don’t know the season long prognosis for Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki, although Glasnow has at least started a rehab assignment in Triple-A,” Schoenfield writes. “The one thing we do know is the Dodgers have a system loaded with hitting prospects that might make them the team most capable of making this trade — if they want to do it.”
Schoenfield suggests the Dodgers’ best fit on the trade market is right-handed pitcher Seth Lugo of the Kansas City Royals.
The Dodgers lineup faced Lugo on the mound last weekend at Kauffman Stadium. The right-hander earned a win against the Dodgers, allowing no earned runs on four hits. He recorded eight strikeouts and issued five walks across 5.2 innings.
Could Lugo’s 107-pitch outing against the Dodgers, perhaps, have been a tryout? It appears that could be the case based on Schoenfield’s remarks.
President of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said the Dodgers have a “strong desire” not to trade for a starter this summer, but it’s contingent on the return timelines of injured arms. Manager Dave Roberts also echoed a similar sentiment when he said the Dodgers were most comfortable with their internal options in terms of the rotation.
