CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Virginia High School League announces its 2025 Class 2 all-state baseball team.

John Battle senior second baseman/pitcher Porter Gobble is the Class 2 Player of the Year, and Appomattox County head coach Jamie Terry is the Class 2 Coach of the Year.

Other John Battle players earning All-Class 2 first team status include sophomore outfielder Palmer Gobble and senior third baseman Ellijah Childress. Other region 2D players making the first team cut included Central Wise freshman designated hitter Ethan Foster,

Gobble, a slick fielding, versatile second baseman who has also played shortstop, third base, and the outfield during his four years at Battle, is also a hard-throwing 6’4”, 210-pound right-handed pitcher.

An offensive threat from the left side of the plate, Gobble batted .457 (43 hits) with 32 RBI, 42 runs scored, four home runs, 13 doubles, and a pair of triples. On the mound, Battle’s ace posted a 7-1 record with a 2.77 ERA, 76 strikeouts, and 16 bases on balls in 58 innings pitched.

Gobble, who will pitch at Walters State Community College, a powerhouse program in Morristown, Tennessee, helped the Trojans to three state tournament appearances, including two state semifinals and one state runner-up finish in 2022.

In his second season leading the Appomattox County baseball program, Terry’s Raiders finished with a 21-6 record and the school’s second state title with a 3-1 win over King William in the Class 2 finals at Salem Memorial Ballpark.

After playing .500 ball through the first 10 games of the season, his Raiders went 16-1 and ended the season with 11 straight wins. Appomattox won the Class 2 championship in 2022. Terry earned Dogwood District and Region 2C COY honors this season and has a 31-15 career record.

Region 2D players earning second team status included Central Wise junior first baseman Jaron Wyatt, Lebanon senior pitcher Nathan Phillips and Lebanon senior outfielder Eli Breeding.
