The Texas Rangers scored seven runs while the San Diego Padres scored four runs.

In their 12th try, the Rangers have at last beaten the Padres for the first time this decade!

Player of the Game: Hat tip to Patrick Corbin for a quality start (6IP, 2R) but Kyle Higashioka was the guy for the Rangers tonight.

Higgy had a career-high 17 home runs playing for the Padres last season. Back on familiar Southern California grounds, Higashioka hit his second home run with the Rangers — a two-run shot — that turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead.

An inning later, Higashioka added an RBI single to help pad the lead before adding a fourth RBI on a sac fly a couple of innings later and then finally a fifth RBI hit after the Padres had threatened to rally in the late innings.

The Rangers signed Higashioka with the hopes of being a threat at the plate when in tandem with Jonah Heim. That hasn’t exactly panned out thus far this season, but tonight, back in San Diego, Higashioka brought the lumber out the nine spot in the lineup.

Up Next: The Rangers and Padres will conclude this series on Sunday Night Baseball with RHP Jack Leiter expected for the national broadcast against a pitcher to be named for San Diego.

The first pitch from Petco Park is set for 8:10 pm CT and will be aired on ESPN.
