NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Paul Skenes has been named the Pirates’ representative for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, taking place July 15 at Truist Park in Atlanta.
The 22-year-old right-hander becomes the first pitcher in Pirates history to be selected to the All-Star Game in each of his first two MLB seasons.
Skenes has quickly become one of the league’s most dominant arms. This season, he holds a 1.94 ERA, 125 strikeouts, and a 0.92 WHIP over 116 innings, leading all qualified National League starters in ERA.
On Sunday, he added to his case with five scoreless innings and 10 strikeouts in a 1-0 loss to the Mariners. His outing featured a key defensive play in the first inning that helped him escape early trouble.
Despite Skenes’ performance, the Pirates were shut out for a third straight game. Combined with a previous series in which they shut out the Cardinals three times, they’ve now played six consecutive shutouts, tying an MLB record shared by four other teams.
