The Texas Rangers scored one run but the San Diego Padres scored four runs.
The Rangers kind of barely make it through many games playing consistently good baseball. Therefore, it’s difficult for them to do so over the span of many games in a row.
When you don’t do that, you don’t do things like win multiple games in a row and when you don’t win multiple games in a row, you don’t make up deficits in the standings and you don’t exceed mile markers like climbing back to .500.
The last six times the Rangers could have evened their record on the year with a win, they’ve lost, including tonight. They led 1-0 after two batters and didn’t score again. The climb is mostly looking like repeatedly slipping on the same discarded banana peel at this point.
Player of the Game: The pickings were slim. The lineup produced just four opportunities with runners in scoring position. None of those chances came after the first inning. Jack Leiter was inefficient, lasting just 3 2⁄3 innings which meant the beleaguered bullpen was tasked with absorbing most of the innings tonight.
To that end, I guess we’ll have to settle for Luke Jackson and his 1 1⁄3 innings of scoreless relief.
Up Next: The road trip out west continues with a trip to Anaheim to take on the Angels with All-Star Jacob deGrom taking on All-Star Yusei Kikuchi.
The Monday evening first pitch in the opener from Angel Stadium is set for 8:38 pm CT and will be back on the Rangers Sports Network.
