The Seattle Mariners have had a bit of a revolving door at first base this season.
There’s one player expected to be available at the trade deadline that could be thrown into the mix.
USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports that Carlos Santana is expected to be moved by the Cleveland Guardians.

And on X, popular account Mariner Muse thinks it’s a no-brainer for Seattle to go get Santana, calling it “the freest of free squares.”
Santana is in his 16th MLB season, a career that has featured 334 home runs, a .353 on-base percentage, 1,857 hits and 1,317 walks.
That includes 79 games with the Mariners in 2022, when he hit 15 homers.
By the advanced metrics, Santana has also been an above average field at first base this season for Cleveland.

He’s 39 years old and seemingly nearing the end of his MLB career, although Santana hasn’t shown too many signs of slowing down.

He had a slow start to this season but has righted the ship enough to have 10 homers, 38 RBI and a .235 average up to this point.
He’s not a superstar solution for Seattle, but he’d be a familiar face and a solid clubhouse presence who could still get the job done when he’s in the lineup.
