BOSTON — Roman Anthony’s two-run home run and Ceddanne Rafaela’s third consecutive game with a homer propelled the Boston Red Sox to a 9-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.
Boston rookie Richard Fitts, earning his first major league win, allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out six over 5 2/3 innings. Romy Gonzalez contributed with a solo homer, and Abraham Toro’s two-run double helped the Red Sox secure their fourth consecutive win and seventh in nine games.
Rockies starter Austin Gomber exited after 4 2/3 innings, giving up five runs and seven hits, including Anthony’s homer. Colorado’s first run was aided by a throwing error from Boston shortstop Trevor Story. The Rockies narrowed the gap to 5-3 in the sixth inning with a fielder’s choice RBI by Michael Toglia and an RBI single by Ryan McMahon.
However, Boston extended its lead in the following inning with RBI singles from Jarren Duran and Carlos Narváez.
